South Grand Arbor Module 2007

Lehigh Valley Railroad Grand Arbor Shops

This photo was originally published on the cover of February/March 1990 issue of 3/16 Scale Railroading. It announced an article I wrote as a colunist (Finishing Touches) for Ed Loizeaux (publisher) and Dick Karnes (editor).  Unfortunately, this magazine is no longer being published, and this issue was the second issue of Volume 1 so it is probably a bit of a collector's item (and therefore not available for just reading!)

The LV diesel is a custom painted American Models GP-18 using the decals that were included in the issue of the magazine.  They are still available from S DeSignS. The caboose is an Overland Models brass import custom painted using S DeSignS LV caboose decals.

The 40 ft boxcars in the back of the photo are American Models kits.  The D&H car was custom painted using C-D-S Lettering Ltd. dry transfers.  The LV cars were Central Jersey S Scalers' limited runs sold as club cars.

The 50 ft boxcar is a Pacific Rail Shops Erie boxcar kit.

All custom painted models were painted by Don DeWitt.

Action on the mainline

High-nose RS-11 #7643 and low-nose RS-11 #403 are Overland Models brass imports custom painted using the same technique as for the GP9 shown in the photo above (and seen in the back behind the sanding tower.) These models are owned and were painted by Don DeWitt.

The Oriental NW-2 was painted by Tom Boldt and purchased by a grateful Don DeWitt.  I believe he used a combination of O and HO scale decals.  The decals are now available from Desplaines Hobbies.

The Penninsula Creamery truck is a copy of a metal toy I found at a show.  I do not remember any more about it and I am not sure where it is right now! :-)  The decals were Microscale I believe.
