Course Overview:

Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2 (A&P1 / A&P2) is the major core biology course sequence around which the Academy of Medical Science Technology (AMST) student focuses his or her studies at Bergen County Academies.  This 2-year sequence provides a thorough background in anatomy and physiology at an introductory college level.

This course is taught in a manner similar to an Advanced Placement Biology course.  Similar to AP Biology, there is an associated A&P Final Exam externally administered at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's School of Health Related Professions (UMDNJ-SHRP) (UMDNJ) each May for both courses.

Unlike the AP Biology exam which is an optional exam for each student, the A&P1 Final Exam and the A&P2 Final Exam are mandatory assessments.  Whether a student decides to study for this exam is the student's decision however to help motivate the student the performance on the exam (final percentage score) will count for 13% of the final grade for A&P1 and A&P2 respectively.

Any student who passes an exam at a 75% level, will be awarded college credit (4 credits for A&P1 and 4 for A&P2) by UMDNJ-SHRP. However, the college transcript FINAL GRADE is determined as a 50% contribution from your BCA final grade for A&P1 (or A&P2 in 12th grade) and a 50% contribution from the UMDNJ-SHRP final exam grade.   So .... if you want college credit AND a good grade, you will need to work, work, work!

The Grading System used by UMDNJ on their transcript is shown below:

92%-100%
B+ 87%-91%
B 83%-86%
C+ 79%-82%
C
75%-78%
D
70%-74%

Your BCA A&P1 Final Grade:
Your final grade in A&P1 (or A&P2) will be calculated using the following equation:
(UMDNJ-SHRP FINAL EXAM % * .13) + (A&P SUBTOTAL % * .87)

The A&P SUBTOTAL % is determined via a variety of assessments over three trimesters at BCA.  Each trimester's final grade counts for 33.33% of the A&P SUBTOTAL.

Details of the curriculum and assessments may be found be visiting each course's website found at:
