INTRODUCTION

The Culbertson family connects to the DeWitt family via the first DeWitt who we know is our ancestor... namely John DeWitt.  In the 1790 census for Westmoreland Co, PA in Hempfield Township which is near Pittsburgh, John Culbertson and a John Dewit (probably our John DeWitt) were listed next to each other which I assume means they lived next to each other.  So I guess what had happened is that our John DeWitt fell in love with Nancy Culbertson, and married her. Then they settled down in the house next to her father. John DeWitt was listed as living with one female who we can assume was Nancy.

John married Nancy Culbertson about 1789 in Pennsylvania in the Westmoreland Co. area which is near Pittsburgh.  The purpose of this document is to trace back Nancy's family as far as is possible, because we share their genes as well as DeWitt genes.

I offer two methods to view the Culbertson information. 
  1. If you just want to follow the direct line from William Culbertson in Scotland to Nancy Culbertson in Pennsylvania, then the Family Line section is just for you.
