  • Henry Sherman was living with his family on 4 Aug 1860 in Jackson Co, VA
  • 4 Aug 1860, page 174, Post Office: Murrysville
  • Thomas Dewitt (65), Magdelena (62), Lucinda (23), Henry (22), Phoebe A. (18), Dallas (16)*, Virginia (14)*, John C. (12)*--- Note:  Dallas living with Alexander DeWitt (below) in June of same year.
  • * These are not children, ... they are grandchildren.  They are children  of John and Mary Romaine DeWitt who died just before 1850.
  • Henry was married in 18 Dec 1861 in Murraysville, Jackson Co WV
  • Henry served in the Union Army for 2.5 years being stationed in a Methodist Church in Muses Bottom, WV most of the time.  After hostilities ceased the family came by wagon, April 1865 to a farm southwest of Milan, Sullivan Co, MO.

Obituary


Henry Sherman DeWitt was born Feb 14, 1837, in Jackson Co, WV, died Apr 11, 1910 in Milan, MO at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Booth, age seventy three years, one month, and twenty seven days...

 
Dec 18, 1861, he was united in marriage to Minerva Jane Milhoan.  To  this union were born nine children, three of whom had gone before: Mary Magdalene, Emma, and Mrs. T. E. Woods.  There survive him his widow six children, Mrs. Daniel McClaskey, Mrs. Hartley Booth, Mrs. Trussell Hall, Thomas  Sherley, and Leonard...
