if you pass the mouse pointer over any of the yellow spots, the name of
the muscle will be displayed. No.... I will not make you memorize
any of them.
The focus for us,
is the concept
of skeletal muscle which is voluntary and is controled via efferent
neurons
also known as motor neurons of the somatic nervous system.
Their
neurotransmitter is acetylcholine
and the location where they connect to the muscle cell is called the neuromuscular
junction. Acetylcholine is released from the motor neuron
into
the synaptic cleft. It diffuses to the muscle cell end plate
where
it excites the muscle cell electical activity and generates an Action
Potential
which spreads through the skeletal muscle cell and induces a
contraction.
