A nerve is a bundle of axons from a variety of neurons.  Neuron cell bodies are found only in the CNS or in ganglion bundles outside of the CNS.  Ganglia are found as part of the structure of the autonomic nervous system.  The direction of signals may be in opposite directions in a nerve within the different axons.  For instance, many cranial nerves carry axons from sensory neurons (AFFERENT) and axons carrying signals out to effectors.
