* A PPAO is my silly name for an examination.  It stands for Personal Performance Assessment Opportunity.

You are responsible for the following topics (found in class handouts, and chapter 8):
  1. General structure of the human nervous system
  2. Neuron structure, function and interaction with other neurons or muscles such as neuron-neuron synapses and neuromuscular junctions, (See course panels on neurons and chapter 8.)
The PPAO will be given on one day.  There will be no retakes.  Your grade on this exam is final.  I do not curve. This exam will count 30% of your final grade.

Exam Format:
The format of the PPAO will be a combination of:
1.  10 multiple choice questions that include the material covered by the topics listed above. You will be allowed 30 minutes to answer these questions during the exam.  These questions have a value of 50 points of the 100 point exam.

2. ONE essay listed below.  You should plan your answer so that you can write it within 30 minutes.  The essay has a value of 50 points.
How does a synapse work?  Make sure you discuss and show the events in the presynaptic, synaptic and post synaptic areas. (See course panels and chapter 8).
3. A 6-pt extra credit short answer question will also be provided.

Note:   Every major concept that you include in your answer should be accompanied by appropriate diagrams.
