Philosophy and Course Value:
  • A reasonable amount of enthusiasm for this course is expected in the classroom.  Continual complaints about how tough this course will be politely listened to, but if you are not willing to try, then you should realize the consequences about your inactions.
  • In an effort toward demonstrating an understanding of High School Student life....Dr. DeWitt offers several course features that will make your life easier:
    • Curriculum and Due Dates Availablility
    • Late Assignment Policy
      • If you anticipate conflicts with your life and Immunology due dates, then that issue should be discussed in private with Dr. DeWitt prior to the due date.  Accommodations can be made in a reasonable fashion that will satisfy both teacher and student. Consider an accommodation as a "Get Out of Jail Free Card" and do not expect continual accommodations. (Note: You are not guaranteed a "Get Out of Jail Card".)
      • If you can not submit an assignment on time, please realize that in many other courses in your future, there will be a 100% penatly if an assignment is turned in late... in other words, you will not be able to turn in an assignment late and gain ANY credit for it toward your final grade.
      • Please appreciate that the 5%-off-per-day policy offered by Dr. DeWitt is an offer of good will, and should be appreciated as such.  Also appreciate that this policy extends only down to 30% off.  After 6 days, there is no longer a larger late penalty accumlating.  Assignments submited after 6 days or 30 days still only receive a 30% penalty.
    • Five percent of your final grade is given to you basically for behaving in a reasonable fashion in this course.
  • Finally, while discussing spirit, please note that the cheating policy of BCA is vigorously enforced in my courses.  Anyone who is caught cheating on a quiz, exam, or homework projects will lose ALL credit for that assignment AS WELL AS all credit for spirit.
  • The Bottom line...... Appreciate Dr. DeWitt's good will toward you as a student, and return a similar good will to him by showing up on time to class, participating in activities with enthusiasm and avoid begging for breaks on assignments.... and you will actually enjoy Immunology!
