Notes:

Complete names of George Washington's children were made available by Mary Ned Fotis.

The son George W was discovered in the 1880 and 1900 censuses.
He is probably George William, and is therefore our Will Knifong.

* Information about Lola Frances and Georgia Ann was supplied by Georgia Ann's grand daughters
Cynthia Lee Whaley Williams
and Sandy Boring. (swboring @ mindspring.com)
Some data is available from: Myers Geneology

The children Ada and Raymond were listed in the Myers geneology and died in their youth.  Raymond's photo is shown below.

** (Raymond's dates determined from Rembrance Card which says he was 7yr 6 mo 15 da old when he died on 2 Dec 1899)

A number of Knifongs and Pipes in the generation that would be the children of the children show above are found in
a cemetery listing for the White Oak Cemetery in Sullivan Co, MO at TOMBSTONE.

Richard Smith wrote to me (on 2/21/00) about the Knifong homesteads:

Don, while I don't have information on this house, I know that Martin Jesse Knifong, Jr., Geo. Washington Knifong's grandfathers homestead was two miles East of Browning. Adjacent to it was 40 acres owned by my GG grandfather Joseph W. Knifong and 80 acres owned by George's father John Jesse Knifong. Another son of Martin Jesse Knifong's Caleb had 160 acres about four miles Northeast of Browning.

The Knifong Cemetery, which is still in use was established on the property when Martin Jesse Knifong died in 1841. He was the first to be buried there. The remains of an old church was standing when I visited the site in 1994. The Church was known as the Knifong Grove Church.

To sort out the ancestry of all of these folks Richard mentioned: Knifong DeWitt Geneology

Richard Smith wrote to me (on 2/27/00):
I was going through Kenneth and Ruby Knifong's book and found this photo (very poor zerox copy) with an insert of George and Martha. They identify the house as The George Knifong Home, the people to the left are George with his wife Martha (Pipes) beside him. The others are not identified.

(7/15/08)
My reflections on the closeup of the people in front of the house:
George and Martha are on the left.
The old woman is probably either mother of George or Martha which means that she may be either Anna Lambert Knifong (1810-1882) or Mary Eliz. Pipes (1813-1881).  If this is correct, then the photo was taken around 1880.  If that is correct then the girls could be Mary Ann (1869-1939), and Minnie (1873-1938).  The other girls in the family would be too young in 1880 to match these girls.... so some of the girls may be cousins.

Below is a photo he took showing the entrance to the Knifong Cemetery.

This is the beautiful entrance to the Knifong Cemetery. This is a very pretty and well maitained private cemetery. Located abt. 2.5 miles East of Browning on the County line rd. Then North just under a mile to the end of the road at Knifong Grove, the cemetery and what remains of the old Knifong Grove Church. (Note: the church was falling down in 1994 and may have been removed by now.)
