William B's death certificate states that William B's father's name was Garrett. No birthplace is listed for Garrett. Also, no mother is listed. Her birthplace is listed as Virginia. (from Death Certificate) That at least explains why their first son had that name. Return to the Top |

Lupfer born in PA mother Mary M. Clearkin born in VA Grace is listed as his wife in the 1900-1920 censuses. She was living with some of her children in 1930. But..... Baker's Death Certificate says he was husband of a woman names Kate Lefter? They lived in Chariton Co, MO. Both parents were listed as born in PA. So is her birthdate actually 1878? | As of 1900, 3 other
children had been born for
a total of 14
children, but only 11 were alive. Ref: 1900 census Note that the list above includes 11 children. I can not account for Mary A., Elizabeth E., Benjamin S. U., or David A., after 1880 so maybe they were all still alive?. In 1910, 10 were living and 4 had died. Several children could be the one who died because I can not account for the following in 1900, 1910, 1920 or 1930: Mary A., Elizabeth E., Benjamin S. U., or David A. Even if I could, I am still missing 3 children to make a total of 14. If the 3 died soon after birth, there may be no record. Gravestones may be obliterated by now, and some stones list children who died near birth as "Son of W. and V. Richardson" So this mystery may never be solved. |

As shown below in her Death Certificate, Violet Jane Whitton Richardson's maiden name was Whitton, ![]() Violet's father was Fountain G. Whitton. Using the power of ancestry.com I found 1850: ![]() Nearby was her brother Squire McFarland and his family in Owen Co. KY (District 2). ![]() Also nearby was the Thomas McFarland family in Owen Co. KY (District 2). ![]() In Owen and nearby Scott counties, there are many many McFarlands and Whittons - As shown above, William was living with his parents, Wyatt and Mary Richardson in nearby Scott Co., KY. I wonder how they met since they were married 1 year later. 1860: William B. and Violet lived in Owen Co, KY in 1860. Census:
These data show that the Richardsons lived in Kentucky from at least 1855 because Mary A was born in KY. 1870: William B. and Violet lived in Randolph Co, MO in 1870. Census:

She was living with her children, son Clifford, and daughters Johnie (widowed) and Margery In addition, granddaughter Eugenia Chrisman (7) resided with them as well. she was probably NOT Johnie's daughter because of her age of 7. Johnie had been married only 2 years earlier.... so I do not know who Eugenia's mother was.
Garret H. Richardson Return to the Top He was first listed as Garret in 1860 Then Garrett H. (or Garnett?) in 1880 and then in 1900 (see below) He was listed as G. H. in 1920 as he was living with his sister Sarah Harlan and his father W. B. Richardson 1900
Census: Garret H
with his wife Mary E. They had been married for 12 years and had
no children. 1920 Census: Garrett was listed as G. H. in 1920 and was a widower. He was living with his sister Sarah Harlan and his father W. B. Richardson1922: Return to the Top Death: ![]()
She was seen as 13 year old S. A. in the 1870 census. Then in 1880 she had left home but was found nearby listed as Alice and had married Joseph E. Stamper and had had 3 children. Note that in the 1930 census, she stated that she was 17 when she was first married. I then found her as Sarah A. in the 1920 census married to John T Harlan because her father W. B Richardson was living with them. Backing up to 1910 I found John Harlan again, and Sarah A Important clues were shown because they were both in their second marriage. Two daughters were living with them: John's daughter Susie (later found to be Mary S Harlan in the 1900 census.) and Lois Stamper who was Sarah's daughter. This information then suggested Sarah's first husband's last name. So now I am searching for them in 1880. .... good fortune... see below. 1880 Census: 1900 Census: Clifton

It is not clear where Mr. Justice was. ![]() 1930 Census: Topeka, Shawnee Co, KS (Enumeration District 25, pg 23B, as of 24 Apr 1930) ![]() Note that this census states that Kenneth was born in KS and Leland in MO. It looks like she changed the listing of the two sons and may have not changed the birth states.
