* NOTE:  Identity of Wyatt Richardson as the father is explained below at: WYATT.

HOWEVER...
William B's death certificate states that William B's father's name was Garrett.  No birthplace is listed for Garrett.  Also, no mother is listed.  Her birthplace is listed as Virginia.
(from Death Certificate)
That at least explains why their first son had that name.

Baker's

Having learned Grace's maiden name, I suggest that Lefter is Lupfer.... and Kate may have been a nickname.

* In 1880, James and Mary Lupfer had a 2 yr old daughter named Kate. They lived in Chariton Co, MO.  Both parents were listed as born in PA.
So is her birthdate actually 1878?

Also, in 1910 Grace's mother was listed as born in Virginia and her father born in Ohio

As of 1900, 3 other children had been born for a total of 14 children, but only 11 were alive.
Ref: 1900 census
Note that the list above includes 11 children.  I can not account for Mary A., Elizabeth E., Benjamin S. U., or David A., after 1880 so maybe they were all still alive?.

In 1910, 10 were living and 4 had died.  Several children could be the one who died because I can not account for the following in 1900, 1910, 1920 or 1930:
Mary A.,
Elizabeth E.,
Benjamin S. U.,  or
David A.
Even if I could, I am still missing 3 children to make a total of 14.
If the 3 died soon after birth, there may be no record.
Gravestones may be obliterated by now, and some stones list children who died near birth as
"Son of W. and V. Richardson"   So this mystery may never be solved.

The family listing above is based on the information found on the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910,
and
1920 census pages and an incomplete summary written by Mary Frances Richardson DeWitt gathered
from Mary Soffa Harmon Richardson, wife of William Pinkerton Richardson.

Further ongoing commentary about my research for the ancestors of William B. Richardson and Violet Jane Whitton follows:

1840:

indiana counties

Since William B. was ALSO born in Indiana in 1832, his parents may have remained in Indiana and might be found in the 1840 census and hopefully the 1850 census.  They may or may not be living in the same county just because they chose to move around, or the county lines changed in those early years.

Since Violet Jane was born in Kentucky in 1839, her parents probably lived in KY in 1840. In 1850 the census first showed family member names.

June 2004 News!

On June 19th 2004, I decided to search more for Violet with the usual bad luck.  But I decided to look at the neighbors of William B. and Violet in their various censuses and when I examined their census record for 1860 as shown below,
I found that a 25 yr old Elizabeth Richardson lived with the Million family next door to William B and Violet.

Hmmmm...  William's third daughter was named Elizabeth.... Hmmmmm.... Is this 25 yr old Elizabeth living with the neighbors because there is no room at William's house?  Is Elizabeth working for the Millions?  Is Mary J. Million related to the Richardsons?

In 1840 William B. and Violet were children (ages 8 and 1 respectively), were most likely living with their parents and this would be the first census in which they would appear.  1840 census records do not list children's names so it will be difficult to find them until we find their parent's names.

As of May 2006, all I know about Indiana is that William B's son William P. i
s listed as being born in the town of Hope, in Bartholomew County, Indiana in 1866 which means that William B and Violet Richardson lived there as well.

1860 census

These data show that the Richardsons lived in Kentucky from at least 1855 because Mary A was born in KY.
In the 1900 census, they state they had been married for 49 years so that makes them married in 1851 when
William B. was 18 and Violet 12!

In the family listed below them, the William Millions, a 25 yr old Elizabeth M. Richardson, born in Indiana,
is living with them.  Is she a sister to W. B.?

Is she the reason why they named their third child Elizabeth?

Anyway... that then suggested that in 1850, I could search for a 14-15 yr old Elizabeth Richardson
who would probably be living with her parents, and maybe even her brother, William,
before he married Violet??????????  This might be THE link to find the parents of W. B. Richardson!!!

1850
I present you with the Wyatt and Mary Richardson family in Scott Co, Kentucky on 18 Sep 1850,
including among other children, an Elizabeth (age 14) and a William (age 19).  The ages match
the William B. Richardson living next door to Elizabeth Richardson in 1860 as shown above.

Wyatt 1850

In addition, this shows that Wyatt and his family including eldest daughter Mary (age 21) and
youngest daughter Nancy (age 12) lived with them.
Is Mary, the Mary J. Million seen in 1860?

Below is a map that shows where Scott Co. is located.  Note that is located southeast of Owen Co., where
William B and Violet lived in 1860.  If Wyatt is William B.'s father then this suggests that
Violet's family lives nearby as well.  William B. and Violet were married in 1851.

Ky co in 1850
Another useful Kentucky Co. MAP... KYGenWeb

Based on all the other family information, I contend that this William (son of Wyatt) is our William B. Richardson.
In the 1900 census for William B., it states he was born in January 1832 in Indiana.  On Sep 18, 1850, he
would be 18 years and 8 months so they may have rounded up to age 19 for the census.

If this is true, then Wyatt Richardson was born Abt 1808 in Kentucky.
Forty nine year old Mary Richardson was born Abt 1801 in South Carolina.
The four children shown were born in Indiana beginning in 1829.

(note:  HOWEVER...
William B's death certificate states that William B's father's name was Garrett.
No birthplace is listed for Garrett.  Also, no mother is listed.
Her birthplace is listed as Virginia.
(from Death Certificate)

Yes!  A new name to search for...

In a search for Wyatt in 1860, I had no success using the Richeson, Richerson, Richarson, Richardson last names.
I did not try Mary because it is too common.

Looking backwards...

In a search for Wyatt in 1840, I found a 20-30 year old Wyatt Richardson living in Lawrence, Arkansas, with
2 daughters less than 5 along with a wife in the same age bracket... but no one else using Richeson, Richerson,
Richarson, Richardson last names.  Another Wyatt living in Massachusetts all through the 1800s can be found,
but he can not be our Wyatt. I have not been able to find this Wyatt again in the 1840, 1860 or 1870 censuses.

I did find a Wyatt H. Richardson served in the Union army and was enlisted on 11 May 1864.  He lived in
Van Buren Co., Iowa.  He served in Company K, 45th Infantry Regiment Iowa for 100 days entering as a
private and leaving as a private at Keokuk, Iowa on 16 Sep 1964.  He was awarded Distinguished Service.
However, his age was 44.  Our Wyatt would have been 54 in 1864.

However this fellow may be more important than I thought.

Using the Ancestry.com search engine for Wyatt Richardsons.... I found our Wyatt Richardson in three family
geneaologies:  (Officer, Rath and Brabham genealogies).  This is always what one hopes for... SOMEBODY
else has some information to simply hand you!

Wyatt Hawkins Richardson was born 4 May 1807 in Scott Co, KY.
They also mention his enlistment in the Union army, so the first reference I found listing him as 44 in 1864
was in error.  1864-1807 = 57.

Bonanza Time!..... He married Mary Meyers.  His children were Mary, William, Elizabeth, Nancy and Charles.
More information about them can be found at their own website at: WYATT

Other Richardson families in Scott Co., KY in 1850?
1. Using the KY GenWeb Scott Co, KY 1850 alphabetical listing for the census I found
RICHARDSON 400A-459A-460B-461A-483A-497B-502B

1. I found another Richardson family with a 17 year old son named William.  But there was not sisters named Mary or
Elizabeth. ... so I will not consider this family as a candidate.  The father's name was J. Richardson (age 37) and the
mother was Margaret (age 38).  Both were born in KY.  They are listed on page 459 of the census living in District 2
on 10 Aug 1850 in dwelling 184.

The same family is found on page 460B, and listed as J. V. Richardson, with son William T or J.
This page was recorded on 13 Aug 1850. They lived in dwelling 210.  I guess they moved between Aug 10 and 13th!

2. A Green Richardson, with a 4 yr old son named William is found on page 483.
3. On page 497B, a Milinda Richardson, age 60, was living in a poor house.
4. On page 502B, our Wyatt Richardson family is found!

Note: Before I found Wyatt, I considered some other Richardson families in Indiana as potential parents of William B.
In case I find out later that Wyatt is NOT our family, my other musings can be found at: MUSINGS

The Search for Violet

After many years of frustration, I obtained Violet's Death Certificate from the online
Missouri State Archives in May 2006. After over 25 years of searching, it was a eureka day!

As shown below, Violet's middle name was Jane.  Her last name is written as Whiton
assumed from the last name of her father, Fountain Whiton on the death certificate.
death certificate
Violet was born on 5 December 1838.
At her death her age was: 77 yrs 8 months and 18 days.
Her father's name was Fountain Whiton who was born in Kentucky.
On William B. Richardson's Death Certificate (see below), his wife's name is Violet Jane Whittan or Whitton.
Her mother's name was Sally McFarland who was born in Kentucky.

With her last name available, new searches for Whittons and McFarlands in Kentucky has ensued!
As you will see, it appears that Violet Jane was the oldest child of Fountain and Sally Whitton.

1850: Fountain Whitton
In 1850 William Richardson and Violet were not married and were probably living with their parents.

As shown below, Violet Jane Whitton lived in Owen Co. KY (District 2) with her parents,
Fountain and Sarah Whitton along with brothers James, Simeon and George on 3 Sep 1850.

She was listed as Jane Whitton, not Violet. This is the only time I have ever seen her listed as Jane.
A Granville McFarland lived next door.  Since Jane's mother was listed as Sally McFarland on Jane's Death Certificate,
but Sarah on the census, it appears that Granville was Sally (Sarah)'s brother, since Sarah was 29 and Granville was 30.
1850census
Nearby was the Squire McFarland family in Owen Co. KY (District 2)
Squire was 38 so he may have been another brother to 29 year old Sarah McFarland Whitton.

1860: Fountain Whitton
On 7 Jul 1860 F.G. (Fountain G.) (age 46) and Sally (age 40) Whitton lived Lusby's Mills, District 1, Owen Co, KY.
Their children were: sons James (age 19), Simeon (13), George (10), and John (8) and daughter Malinda (6).
Since Violet Jane married William B Richardson about 1851, she was no longer living with Fountain and Sally in 1860.
1860
Notes about James and Pleasant Whittons:

In 1860, a 42 yr old Thomas Whitton with wife Mary lived in Rays Forke, Scott Co., KY.
They had a 19 year old James Whitton living with them along with 7 other children.
Was Thomas a brother to Fountain?
Jame's name was James G. Whitton in 1850 when he lived with his parents and 4 sisters in Scott Co, KY.

In 1860, a 60 yr old Rev. P H Whitton with wife Annie lived in Rays Fork, District 1, Scott Co, KY
They had a 20 yr old James S. Whitton living with them along with 29 yr old Robert and 16 yr old P{leasant}. W. Whitton
All were born in KY except Annie who was born in PA about 1803.
How was PH Whitton related to Fountain ?

In 1850, P.H. Whitton was identified as Pleasant Whitton. They were living in District 2, Scott, KY.
He was born in 1801 in VA.  Annie (age 46) was born in KY.  James S was born in KY.
Children were
        Robert H (age 20),
        Levi M (age 16),
        Susan G (age 12), (Ref)
        James S. (age 10),
        Lucinda E (age 7), and
        Pleasant W (age 5) [He married Anne Dotey about 1879)  {See listing of all children below.}
They were living next door to Robert Whitton, (Age 69 b. Abt. 1781 in VA) and his wife Mary (age 71) b. in NC)
So was Robert, Pleasant's father?
(Pleasant Whitton is listed as a slave owner in 1850 in Warren Co, KY.)
(Pleasant Whittonis listed as a slave owner in 1860 in Warren Co, KY.)
(A Pleasant Whitton is listed in Crawford Co, IL in 1820.)

Another listing for the family of Pleasant and Anna Doty are: (ref)

 James
Walker {In 1880, Pleasant (age 79, widowed) is living with Walker and family in Lytles Fork, Scott Co, KY)
 Lucinda

In 1840, PH Whitton is living with family in Scott Co, KY.

(Arrgggh:  A Pleasant Whitton (age 60) (b. KY) was living with wife Elizabeth (age 50) in Warren Co. KY in 1850!
with son Alphus (age 17)).. Last name could be Whittow.

James S Whitton was living in Mc Farland, Scott Co, KY in 1910 at age 70 with second wife Mary J (age 72)

In 1830, a Pleasant Whitton, was living with 2 20-30 females, and 2 <5 males, and a 60 yr male and 50 yr female in Barren Co , KY.
Next door was Granville Whitton, with wife, 2 daughters and 2 sons.

On ancestry.com I found a family listing for a Pleasant Whitton who married Anna Doughty (Dotey, Doty) b 1802-8 in Butler Co, OH
their children were Louisa, Susan, Sally Anne, Walker, James, Lucinda, Jane, Maiah, John D, Levi, Polly and Adeline.
No birthdates were given for the children so this list is not chronological.
The listing was an ancestry for the Doty family and no other info was available for the Whitton line.
They were married 8 Jun 1820 in Coles Co, IL

I found reference to a James Harvey Whitton, b abt 1830  (ref)
He married Catherine (Kitty) Atkins 7 Mar 1850 in Scott Co., KY

I STILL DO NOT KNOW HOW PLEASANT WHITTON AND LINEAGE RELATE TO FOUNTAIN G. WHITTON.

1863: Fountain G. Whitton
Fountain was a member of the Confederate army (Clark's KY ?? Rifles, Company B)
and was captured by the Union Army in Owen Co, KY on March 28 1863.
He "deserted from rebel army."
He arrived at Camp Chase, Ohio (near Columbus, OH)
on 15 April 1863 and was "released 6 June 1863 on oath of allegiance" to Col. W Hoffman
(Page 119: National Archives Mircorfilm Publications: May 1862-Aug 1863, vol 55:
Auxilary Register, Military Prion, Camp Chase, O.)
The quoted remarks above were from page 300 of the General Register for Camp Chase
between April 6 1863 to April 12 1865. (National Archives Vol 53.))
(Ref: ancestry.com )

1870: Fountain Whitton
On 4 Aug 1870, F.G. (Fountain G.) and Sallie Whitton lived next door to son James and Isabelle Whitton in Lusby's Mills, Owen Co. KY.
Fountains children were: sons Simeon (24), George (21) ,
and daughter Mary (10) ..and maybe John (19)?? and ???(16), .
Mary is probably NOT Malinda from 1860 because  Malinda should have been 16.  Mary was only 10.
Mary may have been born right after the 1860 census.

Notice that James and Isabell's new son was named Fountain G.  When you search for Fountain G. Whitton in ancestry.com
you will find a Fountain G. Whitton that seems to live from 1815 to past 1920!!  It is actually two people.  What is also confounding
is that Fountain G. Whitton II married a Sarah/Sallie as his second wife so Fountain and Sarah/Sallie show up again also.

1880: Fountain Whitton

On 5 Jun 1880, Fountain Whitton (age 66) and his wife Sarah (age59) lived district 91, Grant Co, KY.
Fountain's father was born in VA and his mother in KY. Sarah's parents were both born in KY.

1880

Nearby were the familys of Fountain's sons:
  1. Simeon Whitton (listed as S. F. Whitton) (b. abt 1847) and wife Catharine and sons George and William
  2. John Whitton (b. abt 1853) and wife Amanda and daughters Malinda and Ethel
  3. George Whitton (b. abt 1848) and wife Susan and sons Jarett D. and John G
Later Years:

In 1900:

I found a George R Whitton, born Jan 1849, who was widowed and living in Grant Co, KY
      with daughters Linna (b 1883), Rebecca (b 1888), son Walter (b 1892) and daughter Clara (b 1893).

In 1910,
I found a Simeon T Whitton (age 63) living with his family in Cincinnati, Hamilton Co, OH.
He was born in KY about 1847 which is consistent with the Simeon listed above.
He was living with his second wife, and 3 sons and 2 daughters.
He died 27 Feb 1912 in Cincinnati.

I could not find George in 1910.

In 1850 Violet was not married yet and she was living with their parents.
As shown below, Violet Jane Whitton lived in Owen Co. KY (District 2) with her parents,
Fountain and Sarah Whitton
along with brothers James, Simeon and George on 3 Sep 1850.

She was listed as Jane Whitton, not Violet. This is the only time I have ever seen her listed as Jane.
A Granville McFarland lived next door.
I do not know who he is because Sarah did not have a brother named Granville.
1850census
Nearby was her brother Squire McFarland and his family in Owen Co. KY (District 2).

Also nearby was the Thomas McFarland family in Owen Co. KY (District 2).
Thomas was 39 so he may have been a cousin of Sarahs.  Perhaps he was the son of the other
McFarland males
who migrated to KY along with Charles?  That would be Langford or Levin.

In Owen and nearby Scott counties, there are many many McFarlands and Whittons
It will take some time to sort them all out!

-  As shown above, William was living with his parents, Wyatt and Mary Richardson in nearby Scott Co., KY.
I wonder how they met since they were married 1 year later.

1860:

William B. and Violet lived in Owen Co, KY in 1860.
Census:
District No. 1, Owen Co, KY, (MAP-see north central under Boone Co.)   Post ofice Lusby's Mill

page 134 taken on 20 July 1860

1860 census

These data show that the Richardsons lived in Kentucky from at least 1855 because Mary A was born in KY.
In the 1900 census, they state they had been married for 49 years so that makes them married in 1851 when William B.
was 18 and Violet 12!
In the family listed below them, the William Millions, a 25 yr old Elizabeth M. Richardson, born in Indiana, is living
with them.  She is a sister to W. B.
Is she the reason why they named their third child Elizabeth?
Exciting news!   Visit Wyatt Hawkins Richardson.
As you can see, Elizabeth and William are listed as children of Wyatt and Mary Richardson in 1850.  Is the Mary J Million, their older sister Mary?
Yes, because in 1851, Mary Jane Richerson married William A. Million with W. B. Richardson the bondsman!
(REF).
This would explain why Elizabeth was living with the Millions.

1870:

This is a section of page 261b of the 1870 Randolph County, MO census.  (See Map)
Click on the image to visit the entire page.

The birthplace column at the right has a ditto mark for WB Richardson. It is referring to the line above in another household
in which that person was born in Indiana. You can see this if you click on the image above.

I have added a piece of the top of the page to this image to show the location which is Saltspring Township which
has a postoffice of Cairo.

You can see that the Richardsons spent some time in Indiana again as sons Benjamin and William P. were born in Indiana...
so that puts them in Indiana  between 1864 to 1866.

In addition, they moved to Missouri by 1869.  In William P. Richardson's obituary, it states that they moved to
Cliffton Hill, Randolph Co., Missouri about 1867.  Also he is listed as being born in the town of  Hope, in Bartholomew County, Indiana.

William P's birthday is listed as September 8, 1866.
Since they lived in Indiana between the 1860 and 1870 censuses, I do not know of any way to confirm this point other than
from obituary statements like this one.

There is a possibility that he served in the Civil War.  See above: (Civil War)

1880:

William B. and Violet J. lived in Randolph Co, MO in 1880.

This census page can be seen also at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/mo/randolph/census/1880/117-04.gif
This is a section of page 4-5 of the 1880 Randolph County, MO census for the Clifton Township enumeration district 117.
 (Clifton Hill map)

The birth locations are the same as for the 1870 Census with MO for Annie, David and Lilly.
New information is that William B.'s father was born in KY and his mother was born in North Carolina.
Violets J's parents both came from Kentucky.

I searched in these districts because the son William P. Richardson's obituary in 1946 states that his family moved from
the Clifton Hill area
(of Randolph Co.) to near Bynumville, Mo (Chariton Co.) in 1881.

THEREFORE...all of the children shown in my family listing of children at the top of the page with only initials are based
on the page 261b
of the 1870 Randolph County, MO census (exerpt shown above). This can be seen at:
1870 CENSUS: Salt Spring Township (Enumeration District 114)

In 1880 census, children's first names are listed. However, the first two girls listed in 1870 are no longer living at home.
In addition, several new
children are listed.  Notable is that in 1870 C.B was listed as a female, but in 1880 she is now
a he with the first name of Cortez.

Census:

Clark Township, Chariton Co, MO

1900

As you can see, Violett J. Richardson is still around with William B. in 1900, but they have moved to Clark township, Chariton Co.
William and Violett are living with their daughter Grace.... WHO MUST BE our mysterious Silly G. from the 1880 census!!!
She is 24 now and born in Apr 1876 and in 1880, Silly G. was born in 1876!
But who is Elbert?... a new child!!! Who was born after the 1880 census in Oct 1882.

I love the 1900 census because it gives the month and year of their birthdays!!!  William: Jan 1832 and Violett J.: Dec 1838

Note finally that Violett had 14 children of which only 11 are living in 1900.  I wondered who died?  Was Mary A.one of them?

SPECIAL NOTE:
In my investigations, I learned of a Richardson Cemetery in Chariton Co.  It sounded tantilizing.  Recently (1/2006) I discovered another
Richardson clan in Chariton and Randolph counties.  Apparently, the Richardson Cemetery is related to this different Richardson family.
I found their link through the Chariton Co. genealogy website.  I had come across several William Richardsons in these counties via
my Ancestry.com research and had wondered who they were.

The Richardson family genealogy can be found at: William Richardson of North Carolina.
I wonder if the two clans knew each other?

1910:

William B. and Violet lived in Linn Co, MO in 1910.
Census:

I found them living in Marceline, Linn Co., MO.  William B. Richardson (age 78) was living with Violet, age 72
with sons Guss? (age 35), and Elbert (age 27)

Who is the first son?  With an age of 35, he was born about 1875.  In the 1880 census, David A was 6, so maybe this son is David?
I do not think this name looks like "David".  David had a middle initial (1880 census) of A... but this does not look like an A-name either.
Ancestry.com readers believe it is Guss also.

Note finally that Violet had 14 children of which only 10 are living in 1910.  I wondered who died?

In addition, granddaughter Eugenia Chrisman (7) resided with them as well.  she was probably NOT Johnie's daughter
because of her age of 7.  Johnie had been married only 2 years earlier.... so I do not know who Eugenia's mother was.

Sarah Alice Richardson (Stamper/Harlan)

She was first seen as 3 year old Sarah in the 1860 census.
She was seen as 13 year old S. A. in the 1870 census

Then in 1880 she had left home but was found nearby listed as Alice and had married Joseph E. Stamper and had had 3 children.
Note that in the 1930 census, she stated that she was 17 when she was first married.
I then found her as Sarah A. in the 1920 census married to John T Harlan because her father W. B Richardson was living with them.

Backing up to 1910  I found John Harlan again, and Sarah A
Important clues were shown because they were both in their second marriage.
Two daughters were living with them:
John's daughter Susie (later found to be Mary S Harlan in the 1900 census.)
and Lois Stamper who was Sarah's daughter.
This information then suggested Sarah's first husband's last name. So now I am searching for them in 1880. .... good fortune... see below.

Lilly Grace Richardson (Brooks)

For many many years, I assumed that she was Silly Grace (or Sally Grace) based upon the 1880 census shown below,
but in 2006, I noticed that ancestry.com interpretted her name as Lilly in the 1880 census.

1880 Census:

Clifton Township, Randolph Co., MO
(Enumeration district 117, page 4-5) taken on 2 Jun 1880

1900

Somewhere along the line I had information that she married a man with the last name of Brooks and that she had
children named Kenneth, Wilma, Leland + 1 other female.  As you can see, Lilly G Brooks' children match quite closely in 1920.
Instead of Wilma, the child was Wilmer.  Her husaband was William E Brooks, born in 1882 with father born in IN and
mother born in KY.

1910 Census:
Lilly is listed as Lillie G and is living with her family in the 1910 census.
Marceline Ward 1, Linn, M  (as of 16 Apr 1920)
She is listed as married for 6 years, and had given birth to 2 children who were both living.

Recently in 2010, Doug Bartholomew, a fellow John Harman descendant, provided me with this interesting photo:

Leland Brooks
On the back of this photo:
"Just like the 2 boys dont you think"

In different handwriting:
"Aunt Mary's boy to left and Leland Brooks"

From the collection of Doug Bartholomew 3/2010

Leland Brooks was a son of
William Brooks and Lilly Grace Richardson (this website).

Lilly's brother was William Pinkerton Richardson
who married Mary Sophia Harmon

The collection of photos comes from a Harmon descendant line.

So it would make sense that the "Mary" might be
Mary S Harmon Richardson.

Based on the apparent age of the boy on the right (perhaps 7?)
this photo might have been taken in the early 1920s.
A son of Mary and William Richardson who might have been born before Leland (1916), because he looks a bit older,
would have been Marvin (1913) or John (1915).

So maybe the boy on the left is either Marvin or John Richardson?

  • 1860s:  I found them in Owen County near Lusbys Mill on 20 July 1860 living on a farm:  see above 1860 census
    • They lived in KY from at least 1855 because first daughter was born in KY, and only for a short time after 1860 because  sons Benjamin and William.P. were born in Indiana in 1864 and 1866...
In addition they moved to Missouri by 1869 because Cotez Baker was born in MO in 1869.
    •  According to William P. Richarson's obituary, they moved to Randolph Co, Missouri in 1867 and settled near Clifton Hill in Randolph Co, MO

HISTORY
  • Richardsons in general:
  • The RICHARDSONS Of Harrison County, Kentucky -- I do not know if any of our Richardsons are here but I found this on line.
  • A History of Stiversville, KY  --- several Richardsons in early 1800s  -- some from NC and some from GA
  • Thomas, John and William Richardson, Jr. were the sons of William Richardson Sr., who came to Wilkes County, GA, from Newberry Co., SC, around 1780.
  • William Richardson is shown in Louisville, Jefferson County, KY in the census of 1820.
  • Reuben Richardson was born in SC about 1802, and died before 1877 in KY. His first born was William Richardson was born in KY 1828.  He had 2 wives and 17 children!!!
  • William Richardson was born March 19, 1837, in Spencer County, Indiana. He attended school at St. Meinrad's Cloister, and on September 1, 1861, he enlisted as a private for three years in Company H, 25th Indiana Regiment, at Gentryville, Indiana. At the time of his enlistment he listed his occupation as farmer and teacher. The Regiment was sent with the expedition to attack Fort Donelson, and following the surrender of Fort Donnelson marched for Fort Henry and there embarked on transports and moved up the river arriving at Pittsburg Landing on March 18th. It went into camp until April 6th, when it participated in both days of the Battle of Shiloh, losing 27 killed and 122 wounded.
The 25th Indiana Regiment was involved in the battle at River's Bridge on the 2nd and 3rd of February 1865, and lost ten wounded and one captured-- the one lost as captured was William Richardson. Richardson spent February to May as a prisoner, and on April 28, 1865, he was discharged.
Following the war William Richardson married Florentine Kansler, and they had five children and lived on Lincoln and Seminary Streets, in Rockport, Indiana. In 1870, William Richardson was elected auditor of Spencer County. He died February 13, 1878. (REF) -- I included this because of possible confusion with OUR Williams.

St. Francois Co., MO 1920 Census:
** An Annie B. Richardson is listed as a patient in the State Hospital No. 4, in Farmington Township, St. Francois Co, MO in the 1920 census. Is this our Annie B?.... she is listed as 53 years old which makes her birthday about 1867 which is a few years earlier than her birthday derived from her age in the 1880 census..  She is also listed as married.... so if this is her married name, then she is NOT our Annie B.  If she was in the hospital and it was because of mental illness, perhaps she is listed under her maiden name?... Who knows?  As for now, I am not going to claim that this woman is OUR Annie B.
