You are responsible for the structure of the upper GI tract from mouth to stomach covered in your Physiology textbook (Ch 17) and in-class notes for PPAO 2.

Instructions:
Essays: Write a complete answer with drawings to THREE questions from the FOUR possible choices found below. Each essay has a value is 33.33%.  There is no extra-credit question.  The exam should not be longer than 12 pages including graphics. No references are required.

 What is the structure of the mouth? What happens in there related to the function of the GI system?

 How is ingested food moved from the mouth to the stomach, and back again?
(Make sure you address the bulk flow phenomenon in your answers.)

 What is the structure of the stomach? What happens in there? What doesn't happen in there with regard to digestion and absorption?)
4.
 What are ulcers?  Where are they found? How are they formed? How are they treated?
(You should also cover ulcers found in the intestine.)
